- Students will choose a current event topic they find newsworthy to the high school population.
- They will find and print at least two news articles on their topic.
- They will read and study to become knowledgeable on their topic.
- They will create at least 3 questions about the event/topic to ask at least 3 LHS students.
- They will record conversations and transcribe notes. (Video/photos encouraged but optional.)
- They will create a written report or PowerPoint that includes each portion of the current event assignment.
- They may choose to present their written report or PowerPoint to the class for extra credit.

3. Trip to Trinidad and Tobago - Marquise will share his experience with traveling over the winter break.

2. Journalism Journal #5 - Violence in Schools - Students will FIRST list facts and details and SECOND give opinions. After 8-10 minutes, students will share ideas, double-checking that facts and opinions are not mixed...and then turn in papers. How is this topic newsworthy? When would it be considered hard news? or soft news? What type of journalistic ethics are involved in reporting school violence as news?

2. January Current Event Assignment -
Journalism 1 Students - Who is Jayson Blair? Why is he famous in the world of journalism? As you read pages 30 - 36, take notes on the key terms related to Journalism Ethics. Turn in Cornell Notes (with summary) when you are finished.
Journalism 2 and 3 Students - Students will review the list of terms related to journalism ethics, clarifying which ones they do not know/remember. Next, they will circulate a dozen case studies and choose one to research and report on to the whole class next Wednesday or Friday. Students will have class time on Wednesday to organize their information.
