1. Welcome, Attendance
2. Creative Writing - Given a list of verbs, students will create a poem (16 lines - any form, any style) on the topic of Success in 2016. Students are encouraged to be creative, descriptive, and original. Create imagery, parallel structure, antithesis, repetition, and allusions for poetic effect. Students will create final draft for homework with artwork, images, or color.
3. Students will move to the computer lab (room 223) for the midyear benchmark assessment. Students will access the test through SchoolNet. Passcode is 56580.
4. When students finish with the midyear assessment, they will work on the creative writing assignment or the NoRedInk assignments (complete lessons and practice) on Parallel Structure.
Homework: Complete first draft of poem for Thursday. Work on NoRedInk assignments which are due on Monday, January 11th.

Students will identify if and where they used parallel structure, meaningful repetition, antithesis, literary allusions, figurative language, and imagery. After receiving feedback from classmates, students will make notes of any changes they'd like to make before turning in a final draft on Monday, January 11th.
3. Parallel Structure Creative Challenges - In a walkabout, students will demonstrate that they understand the grammatical rule of Parallel Structure. By filling in blanks in a creative writing activity including proverbs, quotations, lists, and poetry, students will create patterns of consistent grammatical constructions. After practicing at 5 stations, students will compare finished ideas with originals.

Daily Language Workouts - Understanding Parallel Structure - Students will review correct and incorrect examples of parallel structure in two exercises: first in the NoRedInk practices and second on GrammarBytes.com, Exercise 3. As students work through the activities, they will receive immediate feedback and explanations so they can self-assess their progress.

3. Fall from Grace Persuasive Speech - Students will choose one celebrity (actor, musician, professional athlete, politician, or world leader) who has fallen from grace due to a scandalous situation. The ultimate goal will be to write a persuasive essay and present that information to the class about the public reaction to that person's fall from grace as well as his/her guilt/innocence.

3. Fall from Grace Persuasive Speech - Students will review handout on Introductions which include a Hook, Bridge, and Thesis. Students will review examples of Claims and Counterclaims.

2. Preview Choices for upcoming Literary Circles Project: The Scarlet Letter, A Farewell to Arms, The Sun Also Rises, The Grapes of Wrath, and A Lesson Before Dying.
Students will submit their top two choices along with one book that they DO NOT want to read.

1. Learning Targets: Students will be introduced to the CWRA, the 11th grade assessment that will be held on Thursday, February 4th. Students will share and submit their multi-paragraph persuasive essays. Students will present their essays - either live or uploaded through Edmodo. Students will work with their Literature Circles.
2. CWRA - College and Work Readiness Assessment - Students will read the letter from Dr. Matney about what the CWRA is and how it is constructed. An LHS guidance counselor will speak to the class about the importance of the scores on this assessment. Students will review the testing schedule and location. All information is linked below this agenda as well as on Edmodo.
3. Celebrity Fall from Grace Assignment - Students will share their final drafts with classmates in an informal fashion. Volunteers will earn extra credit if they read their final drafts to the class or if they present their PowerPoint presentations. All students will submit a typed final draft and upload a copy to Edmodo.
