1. Welcome, Attendance
2. Independent Reading Projects - Students will turn in completed reading logs after sharing the realistic fiction stories they read. Students will share extra credit options like videos, poems, collages, etc. to encourage others to read the stories too. On Edmodo, students will reply to the Realistic Fiction Independent Reading post.
3. Practice with Genres and Sub-genres #2 - As a class, students will review genre and subgenre using a second handout to practice looking for clues for the genre and subgenre.
4. Vocabulary for Success - Students will review possible correct answers to the Word Talk activity on page 16 in the Vocabulary for Success workbook. Students will complete the Word Associations activity on page 18 in a partner challenge.
5. "Thank you, M'am" by Langston Hughes - Students will listen to an audiorecording of this short story and then answer comprehension and analysis questions about the characters, plot, and theme.

2. Vocabulary for Success - Kahoot - Students will review vocabulary words from Lesson 2 in a 30-multiple choice question game of Kahoot. To help study for the quiz on Thursday, students will complete the Check Again activity as well as the Practice Quiz for homework.
3. Genres and Sub-genres - Students will review the correct answers to the genre and subgenre handout #3 completed in class on Thursday. Students will complete a similar activity for accuracy (not just completion) which will count as a quiz grade.

- Students will brainstorm and discuss "What is worth fighting for?"
- After a brief review of autobiography vs. biography, students will read about Richard Wright, author of Black Boy.
- As a class, we will read a few biographical paragraphs about him followed by a short excerpt from his autobiography.
- Students will stop reading at the climax of the story and brainstorm what they think happens and what they as readers would want to have happen. Following directions for a narrative writing assignment, students will write the falling action and resolution to the story.

3. Literary Analysis of "The Right to the Streets of Memphis" by Richard Wright
Looking Ahead: We will be going to the library on Wednesday for a BOOK TALK on Fantasy Fiction, Science Fiction, and Dystopian Fiction. Everyone will have a chance to check out a book in one of these categories for our 2nd quarter Independent Reading Assignment.

2. Daily Language Workouts Set 3 - Using their neon yellow reference sheets, students will complete page 14 in class to review the correct use of punctuation, grammar, and usage.
3. Literary Analysis of "The Right to the Streets of Memphis" by Richard Wright
- Students will share their narrative endings to the short story in small groups.
- Students will read the conclusion of Richard Wright's version and discuss which one they like more.
- Students will review a short summary in order to determine the elements of plot: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.
- Students will answer 10 multiple choice assessment questions as a springboard for class discussion.
- Students will review effective word choice in narrative writing which will lead them to examine the word choice in their own narrative ending.
- Students will study figurative language in Richard Wright's autobiography which will lead them to examine the figurative language in their own narrative ending.

4. Upon return to the classroom, students may continue to revise and edit their narrative endings to "The Right to the Streets of Memphis." For extra credit, students may opt to type and/or create a color illustration to accompany their final drafts.
Homework: Students will revise and edit their narrative endings and complete a final draft by the beginning of the block on Friday. (extra credit for typing and

3. Genre Study - After reading about an unusual occurrence in Lake Tawakani State Park in Texas, students will determine the genre and subgenre of the writing. After viewing additional pictures, articles, and videos on the same topic, students will brainstorm ways to transform the writing into other genres and subgenres, specifically poetry, fiction (realistic fiction, mystery, fantasy, science fiction) and folklore (fairy tale, myth, or fable).
