1. Welcome, Attendance
2. Creative Writing - Given a list of verbs, students will add at least one word (preferably more) after each one to create a list of positive commands for Success in 2016. Students are encouraged to be creative, descriptive, original, and poetic. Students should not repeat words on multiple lines. Students will complete a final draft for homework.
3. After lunch, students will meet in the computer lab in Room 223 for the midyear writing benchmark assessment. Students may access the test through SharePoint.
4. Achieve 3000 - Students will complete 2 more activities through Achieve 3000 by Tuesday, January 12th.
Homework: Edit and revise your creative writing for homework. Achieve 3000 due by Tuesday, January 12th.

3. Daily Language Workouts - Understanding Parallel Structure - Students will review correct and incorrect examples of parallel structure: first as a whole class with the Write Source textbooks on page 550, then with the interactive website (GEDonline) then individually or in pairs with a two-sided worksheet. Students will complete the front in class and complete the back side for homework.

2. Daily Language Workout - Parallel Structure - Students will turn in Exercise 4 which was offered on Tuesday for extra credit. Students will take a QUIZ on Parallel Structure.
3. Scholastic Reading Inventory - SRI - Midyear Assessment - All students (except Mrs. Drayer's Reading students) will complete the mid-year assessment of the SRI - Scholastic Reading Inventory. (Use carts 14 and 16)
4. Quickwrite - Students will use their Cornell notes and the UpFront magazine article "Hard Knocks" to respond to any or all of the following questions: How common are head injuries to athletes who play contact sports like football and hockey? What should be done to protect players from serious head injuries? What personal experience do you (or someone you know) have with head injuries? Prior to leaving for the day, students will turn in Quickwrites, completed Cornell notes, and UpFront magazine copies.

4. Persuasive Writing - Students will use remaining time to work on their first drafts of their multi-paragraph persuasive essay on the topic of crime and appropriate punishment. Students should incorporate at least one quote from a well-known person in their response. Students will include an effective introduction: including hook, bridge, and thesis statement.
Homework: The first draft of your persuasive essay is due on Wednesday, 2/3.
