4. Student Declarations of Independence -
- Students will watch a musical parody of "Too Late to Apologize" to show the attitude, tone, and perspective of the colonists toward the king.
- Students will review the expectations of the assignment.
- Using Jefferson’s document as a guide for style and organization, students will create their own Declarations of Independence.
- Students will be encouraged to work in groups up to 5, brainstorm ideas, and divide the work. Students are encouraged to use Google Drive to simultaneously work on the same document.
- Students will work for the rest of the block to complete the assignment in final draft – ready for publication format. Students should print the final draft of their document, have all members sign legibly, turn in the paper to Mrs. Clay, and upload a digital copy on Edmodo.

- Word of the Day - benevolent - Students will take notes on the meaning, part of speech, various forms, etymology, usage, synonyms, antonyms, and context of the vocabulary word. For potential extra credit, students will create original sentences using the word and text them to Mrs. Clay.
- Review correct uses of the word insolent from Friday's class.
- Students will analyze the persuasive sermon that this Puritan minister delivered to his congregation. What was his purpose? What was his tone? How effective is his argument? How did he effectively use figurative language in his sermon?
- Check and review pages 45-47 in the Holt Interactive Reader. Watch Holt trailer that gives background and mindset of the Puritan audience.
- Choose either a one-pager (with quotations and imagery) or a letter to Reverend Edwards to reflect and respond to his purpose, tone, and argument.

3. Jonathan Edwards' sermon - "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God"
Students will finish their one-pager, dialogue, or a letter to Reverend Edwards to reflect on his famous sermon. Students will turn in papers for evaluation. If they choose, students may choose to store their Holt Interactive Readers in the classroom.
4. Introduction to The Crucible - Students will complete an anticipation guide and a short webquest before we begin reading The Crucible on Tuesday.
Homework: For Tuesday, complete anticipation guide and WebQuest.
