Learning Targets - Students will review the second quarter issue and deliver copies to faculty and staff around the building. Students will organize LHS-related article assignments for the third issue of The Talon. Students will craft open-ended, unbiased questions related to the Presidential election, interview students and faculty, take good notes and pictures (or video) and report on findings.
1. Second Quarter Issue - Students will review and evaluate the second quarter issue of The Talon. As a class, we will assess its strengths and weaknesses. Interested students will deliver copies to faculty and common locations: office, guidance, and library.
2. Third Quarter Article Assignments - The editor staff will create a master list of article ideas for the third quarter issue. These articles will focus primarily on LHS-related topics: school events, sports, clubs/organizations, individual or group successes, classroom/subject area happenings, LHS awards, etc... Students will choose one topic from the list to cover in the first wave of articles.
3. Presidential Election Article Assignment - In pairs, students will create a list of 5 or more (unbiased, non-confrontational, open-ended) questions to ask Landstown students and staff about the upcoming Presidential election. Students will carry their Talon Press Passes as they venture out into the building to informally interview 6-10 people using these questions. Students are encouraged to take pictures and/or video to submit to Logan and Marquise as they post messages on The Talon's social media sites. Students will also use this information to write an article (complete with headline, byline, and unbiased article with 5 or more individuals quoted) which will be due by the end of the block on Monday, March 7th. Photographs, captions, and video will be considered for extra credit.
Homework: Presidential Election Article Assignment due by the end of the block on Monday, March 7th. Upload final drafts of edited articles to Edmodo.
